SUMMER AFTERNOON

A summer afternoon
Warmth in the air
A cool breeze
Blowing the skirt of my dress
As I wait on the station platform
Welcome heat
After the artificial coolness
Of air conditioning

Afternoon light
Bright yet softening
Evening is approaching
A train journey home
Work left behind
A sense of relief and joy
I will see her again
And I will be home
