Historic Romance Short Story – Chances Of A Lifetime > Coming Soon

I’m editing an old short story of mine – an historic straight romance called ‘Chances Of A Lifetime.’ It’s a young woman’s tale of army life, adventure & romance (including unrequited love) spanning the 1940s and 1950s and from Moreton Bay to exotic Palestine.

This is a slight rewrite of a very old short story of mine (written eighteen years ago when I was twenty-one) from my days of fascination with Israel & women’s roles in the Australian army during WWII.

The overarching story was actually my first attempt at a novel. The novel unfortunately still lies unfinished, but the story lives on through this short and sweet version.

I loved writing this story. The characters of Hannah (my protagonist – a young Australian woman from a small town perched high in the mountains) and Yigal (a handsome Jewish soldier from Palestine) have stayed with me through the years. As I was editing, the scenes from my story played vividly in my memory.

‘Chances Of A Lifetime’ will be available soon on Amazon and Kindle (including Kindle devices and apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices). Stay tuned…..

NaNoWriMo

Well NaNoWriMo finished last Friday and I definitely didn’t reach the 50,000 word target for my novel. I reached the 6,000 word count. Not much, but I had a feeling I wouldn’t be able to reach the target. My creativeness disappeared when work got extremely busy, and although I wanted to give NaNoWriMo a good go, I just couldn’t sit down and write 2,000 words a day. But, as an email from the NaNoWriMo team said, that fact the I took the step to start NaNoWriMo and that I had written something is a good achievement. I had started writing my novel. Next year, I will have my material prepared long before November, and I will endeavor to write as much as I can during NaNoWriMo. I think it is a great concept and I’ve recommended it to a friend and family member.

NaNoWriMo Novel

Well, after seven days of being part of NaNoWriMo,I have reached the 6,000 word milestone on my novel. It has taken me awhile, and based on the current number of words I am writing a day, I need to write 2,000 words a day to reach 50,000 by 30th November. A big task!

The novel that I am working on for NaNoWriMo is a story of discovery and the telling of a passionate love affair between two women in 18th century India.

National Novel Writing Month – NaNoWriMo

Last week, on the second of November, on the radio during my morning commute, I heard about the National Novel Writing Month – NaNoWriMo. It is an international project where writers aim to write a 50,000 word novel over the month of November. Previous participants have had their NaNoWriMo novels published.

When I heard this I was inspired to do it. I would write the novel which I had been researching and working on for a while. I signed up. I had and still have my doubts that I wouldn’t be able to reach the 50,000 words, but I told myself to try it and if I don’t reach the target I would still have written a significant portion of my novel.

So I started writing. I struggled to meet the target or 1,600 words per day on the first few days, but I did write. And over the last two days I have actually managed to write over 1,000 words a day, so I am improving. I just have to keep it up!

Participants sign up, give a bio of themselves, enter information about the novel they intend to write and update whenever they wish the number of words they have written so far. You can track your statistics and it gives you a target word count per day and the remaining number of words required to meet the 50,000.

Check out National Novel Writing Month for more information and to sign up. As my partner and friends have said to me “just do it!”
